My diesel heater finally arrived today, delivered by my local Postie, and not Courier as expected. The packaging looked to have been opened and resealed - Customs check, perhaps?



I seem to have more pipes than necessary, no 'assembly' instructions and the 'setting(s)' ones are about as useful as a jigsaw without the lid of the box....... @Burdekin might be getting a PM later

However, when fitting the carry handles, I came across this - I wonder if Audi know about it



Just got to decide final position and put up a shelf to hold the heater now.

Could be customs, although they generally go for a seam and bandage it back up with clear tape - or that’s what they soon the docks.

Hi, It's a by product of car manufacturers co-operation, Fiat for instance develop and make diesel engines which are used in a range of competitors cars although that's mainly for cost reasons as that's expensive. This practice cascades down to other parts like this with one manufacturers subsidiary supplying injection moulded items rather than every one doing it, another one will cover something else. Although it's not so pronounced as this. Plus I think EC rules on trade deals and tariffs between member states and other countries require local component input in the products. Without straying into political areas this is why the Nissan plant in Sunderland in jeopardy.

I don't think it's anything to do with audi, never seen any sort of tank like that fitted in any audi's. Probably just some Chinese factory using the design to make their product look more "german".

Engines have such a short production life due to emissions they have had to join forces so to speak. Can you imagine a engine staying in production as long as the old ford ohv range ever again!?

The 228ci engine fitted to my 1950 pickup is still in production and has been since 1939.
