... I dont know what to get. Ive got NVQ Level 1 in MIG welding so definatly want a mig welder, but i dont know weither i should get a gas or gasless? Ive only used a gas one. Im not looking to spend to much as im only going to be using it every now and then and may make a go-kart. But still, whats the best to go for? Thanks. Ashley.

Gas is best, gasless spatters like mad and the welds look really crap - they are strong, but just don't look very nice.
If you fancy a cheap welder then arc welders are dirt cheap and good for the odd job now and again - i made a trailer with mine no probs.
yes he,s right gas migs are the best for doing a neat weld , although the gasless ones are o.k for working outside in windy conditions . if you put anti spatter spray on the the joint before you weld the joint the spatter will come off easy , we use a chisel so scrape the spatter off and it works well . i would recomend the no gas over an arc welder if you have no experience in arc welding especialy if your welding pipe . some of the cheap hobby welders take a disposable gas bottle aswell i know the clarke used to . so it might be best for the job you have in hand as you wont need to rent a bottle , you can buy the disposables at machine mart i think . the no gas wire is more expensive than the gas wire , but for what your doing money shouldnt realy be an issue its only a small job . hope this helps
