lol what is Delrin off to googleYes, dont use nylon! last time I used a flame to sort the rough edges/burrs.
Delrin is much, much nicer if its suitable.
Even with the sharpest tools its like turning dog poo but stopping every few seconds to clear the strings!Nylon needs super sharp tooling
Faster and higher feed. You need to literally shoot it off like ribbons.Even with the sharpest tools its like turning dog poo but stopping every few seconds to clear the strings!
I use Nylon for rollers for fishing boats hanging blocks, it stands up better than acetal in this application but it is not as nice to turn as has been said. Deep cuts so that the swarf flies off in long streamers but also has been mentioned keep clear of them as they are extremely strong and if the wrap around your hand and get pulled into the chuck you will either have a severed hand or a smashed up hand. Also make sure that anything loose that could be tickled up in the swarf is well out of the way, last thing you want is a lathe tool or similar getting caught up in the swarf and being pulled at high speed towards the chuck.
I do most of the nylon turning on the CNC and in the days before I had the hydraulic chuck I hated doing it as I have even had get pulled out of the chuck with the swarf catching on something solid and wrapping round the chuck and part and pulling it out, not nice having a 120mm dia lump of nylon coming loose at 800 rpmI have also had it wrap around a tool in the turret and pull it clean out.
Vid of the nylon rollers in question.
As a comparison here is some acetal, note at the end how the swarf pulls off and snaps easily, you can't do that with nylon. I was taking baby cuts with this as it was the first job I had done with the new control I had just fitted.
