I`ve got an Anvil

I found one at the scrapyard today.....all tidy and square/clean edged and marked "Made in England" 2 CWT....along with a stand `twas stupidly cheap; so I couldn`t leave it there getting lonely.

...got a teenie problem now: two hefty-chaps heaved it into my Vauxhall Omega estate car for me, making 'seemingly' light work of it.....now I`m home and alone; how do I get the anvil out without breaking the bumper off the car or hurting myself?

Tie one end of a rope round the anvil and the other round a tree, then drive the car forward a few metres

Sadly, no hoist or crane; but I have a hydraulic-jack, wheel-ramps, various baulks and planks of hefty timber and a porter`s truck (heavy-duty)......any ideas?

No Clem, the tractor only has a 3 point rear-linkage....it has some 'quickie' mounts but not the loader itself.

I'm going green with envy, I was after one for some metal work I had lined up in the near future...

See if you can get the ramps up level with the back of the car, put a plank on them and into the car and walk the anvil up and along...
When it's out, drive away then push it over onto a pillow, or sack of straw, on the trolley...

Do you have a decent length of box section, you could rig up a lever using a trestle or similar as a fulcrum, sling with chains or strops and have something ready to drop it on, a trolley would be ideal. you still need 2 people, one to take the weight, and one to drive the car out of the way, but no strength required, I've shifted machinery gearboxes and large electric motors in and out of vans using this method.

If you have a link box perhaps you could lift it level with the boot of the car and slide it across onto it, that is if the cars boot is level which I imagine it is as it is an estate car.

This would mean that you would not have to lift it clear of the ground just "walk" it out a side at the time.

Do you have a sloping driveway, or a steep bit of ground, where you can get the tractor higher than the floor of the car? Lay a plank level from the anvil to the ground, wrap a chain around the anvil, hook it to the drawbar of the tractor. Drive the tractor up the hill. The anvil will probably fall over so it might pay to pack something round it to absorb the shock.

I know how Id go for it, old quilt on the floor, get a good grip with bent knees and stagger clear of the car and lower/controlled drop it on the quilt

But there again, Ive got a hernia where I was driving a digger two days after surgery with 26 staples holding me together, I was fine till I had to change a bucket on my own mind

Joking aside, its easier to unload by far as you have gravity on your side, just clear a path and make sure you can let it go down in a controlled way.
Or rope someone in to helping of course!

gotta say tig pauls idea is the best so far in order to avoid damage to the car bumper

if you were to put the fulcrum on a trolly you could attach a rope to tie the end of the plank down allowing you to drive away the car

Joking aside the long beam on a trestle looks good, but two people are required, another method to consider maybe a good stout lump of wood wedged on something solid, and placed on the rear bumper of the car,supported at car end if required.
Tie a rope around the anvil and attached to the tractor drive forwards SLOWLY you may have to assist the load over any lip or ledge in the boot.
When the anvil is out and on the floor place a suitable bar in the link arms back upto anvil lower link arms tie rope to bar and lift and take to suitable place, if the stand is not too high you could even use this method to place on stand.
Hydraulics are much better than herniated bs.
