I was at an Ham Radio Rally about 20 years ago and paid £2.
Add 24V and the light flashes. It is 13" high, 4" in diameter and weighs nearly 5Kg. It is thick walled stainless steel.
Back then there was no Google so I had no idea what it was. I have just dug it out again. The manufacturer is Technor and it seem to be a signalling device for hazardous environments like oil and gas.
I am sure it will be of some use, but I can't open it and the wife doesn't want it as a door stop
