Local place was selling 18mm marine birch ply for around £100 a sheet a few weeks ago, which I thought was reasonable!

Another local hardware shop that went under 3 years ago is being reopened by 2 former staff members. Only problem is that they cannot buy any stock - either too expensive or impossible to get!

Speaking to a chap from the states earlier this year. He got broken into. They left his tools and took the timber.
Prices have been worse for them from what I gather

It was more my comment was lost in terms of him understanding a little bit of humour. But yes I hear they are in general suffering the same as us.

Just paid £113 for two sheets of MDF...18 and 12mm.

Just called my old supplier that I used when boat building etc and it's not to bad still. 18mm Marine is £62 and Malayan is £45 a sheet. I was paying £48 a sheet for the marine. An old school wood yard and good supplies. It's AJR in Bolton if anyone interested.

Today 4 sheets of 18mm plywood from my normal supplier £184 plus VAT...January this year i was paying £18.50 each.

I paid a ridiculous price for 6 @18mm for my kitchen floor before tiling, everything is becoming stupidly expensive

Good prices if the quality is good. Unfortunately much of the far eastern ply marked as Exterior or Marine is far from it.
Few years back i had some supposedly marine ply that came from a reputable yard & was clearly marked as BS 1088 (an obsolete standard still stamped on some plywood for effect.
I threw some offcuts in a bucket of water overnight. In the morning it had completely delaminated every glue line having dissolved.
I took the three sheets back & the excuse was "Its all like that these days".

Correct..i cant see genuine marine plywood costing £62 a sheet. That overnight delamination comes from Chinese plywood as i have been suckered myself with it, cost me thousands to re-do a roof that looked like the Irish sea after 2 years
