I never realised that 12-bore cartridge cases weren't actually made of brass........

Made a set of wheel bolt covers, but they soon became tarnished over Winter despite being lacquered [used artists' stuff as that was all that was available at the time ]. It was only when I went to polish them up again that I discovered they weren't brass, so now on with the second set, this time sprayed with automotive lacquer from a rattle can.

It'll be interesting to see how these stand up to the elements, shows we live and [hopefully] learn.

As an aside, if anyone on here shoots and is prepared to save a couple of dozen spent cartridges I'd be pleased to have them for beer tokens or a donation to charity - Sod's Law dictates I'll need to produce another set when these go 'off colour'.....

Why didn't you make/position them so that all the writing is either all the same way up or the same relative to the centre of the wheel?

Oh, your centre cap isn't lined up correctly with the 'M' decal either...

I know, I'm a bad person..... but I just stuck them on for the purposes of the pic. Next time I have the wheels off for a deep clean, I'll sort them.

Thanks, but I'm out in the sticks so no clay ground nearby - and shooters tend to be on the hill, so widespread and difficult to gather.

its very badly thought of to leave cases about, it can loose guys their shooting rarely will cases be left for it has been known to kill stock like cows. Sometimes it happens by pure accident and unfortunately now we have plastic cases they tend to last a long while. Mostly mine are well tarnished as I shoot saltmarsh and hand load the empties a few times, you need once fired and I think long brass (although it will be coloured steel). Ask whoever the keepers are around you they will likely bung you a few hundred for a beer once august 12th comes along as the grouse starts the loaders or someone will empty the fired into bins on the day and your looking at 300-400 cases on a single 100 bird day on a decent grouse moor

For a full replacement set, I'll need 20 but am happy to have as many as are available. Wouldn't do any harm to have plenty in case some scrote takes a fancy to them......

I use Magtech all-brass 12 gauge cases for cowboy action shooting. I can probably find 20 of the obsolete Berdan primed shells that I don't use any more. The bases are marked "CBC 12" and the case is 60mm long so you will have to cut them down.

22 rimfire would be too small. The next size up perhaps, 2250 is it? Not my area really but used to make things out of 22 and 243 casings.

I was wondering how they were held on. Pretty sure they won't hold as they are made by a different process than steel/plastic shells and are a larger internal diameter and thinner wall. I have to use 11gauge wads when reloading them.
