I need some holes

as title suggests, I need some holes drilled into some 10 square bar. Holes need to be 6 mm diamter on 20 mm centres.

I've got a cheapie pillar drill and struggled to do this last time round. Happy to pay for local service in and around MK or Northampton. Equally happy for someone to tell me how to do this with my pillar drill.

This will be part of my latestest bbq build as I've got loads of off cuts of 6mm high tensile rebar used in small concrete lintels

I have a box of holes although they are all mixed up so you would have to sort out the ones you need...

My brother uses a guy in towcester who does some metal fab for him.. I could find his address...

How many holes are we talking ?

6 mm hole in 10 mm bar will leave very weak "walls".

I know a great old engineer just south of MK, he'll do any job for you, at low cost.

If the problem you are having with your cheapy pillar drill is the table flexing under load whille drilling, support the underside of the table with a fixed jacking piece wedged in to stop the downward deflection.
Use only quality drill bits Dormer HHS or similar, use plenty of cutting fluid while drilling, and keep the pressure on the drill bit while drilling.

Pillar drill is a b&q special, it's not too bad and I can make it better by clamping a bar as a sort of back stop on the table

Just getting a little lazy and fancy having some stuff done for me for a change. I'm building a major new BBQ for a bit of a session next Friday and simply running out of time

I've been silly and been giving it large, will look quite stupid if my new contraption ain't ready. No major issue really as I have around 6 custom made BBQs that all work and can be used but just fancy flexing the muscles of something new

Having 6 custom BBQ's you'll probably be clued up on your cooking surfaces, but just in case, it's not galv rebar is it?

If it is, it will be hot dipped so overnight soak in vinegar won't remove it all. A good long burn, then extra cleaning before it's "food safe".

oh gosh I shouldn't use Galv anything for food use with heat. 10mm with 6mm holes seems easy thinking M/S but rebar forget it for a grill though why not set up a little fixture (wood will do for a one off ) and just blob it all together with weld instead of drilling.

IMO he want the holes in the 10mm square for the 6mm re bar to go into to form the griddle
coz if you drilled a 6mm hole in a 6mm bar you wouldnt have a lotta meat left .
du ya get it??------- a lot of meat left-------- you know bars falling out into BBQ with burgers on ?????? meat left

It probably can but what I was thinking was lock bar in machine clamp then skids table along to drill holes.

Am I making this too complicated?

If you're wanting the spacing exats just make a simple jig that locates in the previous hole.
