I need help with a v groove.

Ok heres the thing. I just started welding v groove on wednesday and I have no idea what im doing. Listen ok.because the instructor didnt show an example on how to weld it together. He said ok guys you are starting v groove and its like a butt joint. Thats all he said. Im confused on how much gap to have to weld it together. also do you just do streamers on one side of the groove or can you go back and forth from groove to groove ? I know about the first pass has to go between the cracks.


Ive been welding for two years so far in college.but this v groove is so new to me.

although it deals with arc, the process is pretty much the same, just quicker with mig cos ther is no rod to change
