I hate Parcelforce and DHL

I bought a secondhand towbar for my Rover P6. This was before xmas, but i have still not had it. The guy who i bought it from via paypal has said that he has sent it to me twice once via Parcelforce and once via DHL. They claim that both tried to deliver it two times, and nobody was in. Now it was sent from the south coast to me in cheshire. It supposedly ended up back in a southern office after both times of supposedly non delivery. surely it would have been left in a local Cheshire office not taken back down south ? They dont do it that way do they?

Also they are damn liars, there is without any shadow of a doubt no way that they got no answer here four times on the run. My parents are retired and almlost constanly inside during the winter. Also i have been unemployed since November so am also in nearly all the time.

Has anyone got any ideas how to get my towbar from their Brighton office to me without me driving down to get it. Which i wouldnt do as it probably wouldnt be there. Or any ideas how to proceed.

Arrange a timed delivery at their expense. Did they leave a card? Is the address correct? Can the delivery man read? I quite often get stuff delivered for the next street.

If I'm expecting stuff I hang around waiting and even then Royal Mail have claimed I wasn't in when I was!

I've gone to the extent of rigging up a repeating doorbell with flashing lights and a car horn that won't stop unless I throw a switch, they won't accuse me of not hearing that!

probably gone to the wrong house each time! I have had this a few times with various couriers... either not turned up to collect something (then claim that I wasn't in!!) or not left a card because they left it at the wrong place.

Is there a branch close to you? Get them to send it there and go and pick it up in person!

DHL are the pits, Iv had years of Griff with there peace rate paid agency drivers, I'm also convinced some are on the take, everything I order from RS ends up in the Bermuda triangle...........

but surely they both have local offices. why on earth was it not left there in the first place. Surely that must be policy, and not taking it back over 200 miles ? I'll bet it was never north of watford.

I think they only keep it locally for 5 days before sending back if you haven't been to collect it! Not much good if they haven't given you a card to tell you where it is... Get the tracking number off them and then track it online, that way you will know exactly where it has been!

that's the problem with eBay etc I'm fortunate i can get it delivered to work can get across the country in 24 hours across work can take 36 hours!

Interesting. It must depend on the area because DHL are one of the best round here. In Bristol FedEx are shocking. The deliveries are just contracted out. Mine turn up (eventually) in a garden landscaper's van!

I'd agree with that for this area too, all my RS stuff comes first thing without paying the early delivery charge, and never had a parcel lost (yet)

trouble is any firm is only as good as the local office (or driver), DHL seem shabby(very) here, pallet line and parcel express are OK, I nearly fell over the other day when TNT driver phoned to ask if it was OK to leave a parcel by my back door, now thats progress.....

I can beat that, I bought a compound milling slide once off ebay and the seller sent it UPS to here in France at vast cost (46 quid if i remember right). After some weeks of nobody knowing where it was or anything, because they couldnt track it internationally they said, it actually turned up back in england along with a bill for outstanding fees, for the costs of repatriating it. Without payment of which they refused to release it back to the sender (so I could organise my own courier) or attempt to deliver it again (which would have been another delivery fee).

I had crossed words with the sender, as far as I was concerned he was their customer and Id paid him, plus ups refused to deal with me anyway, and it ended up with me having nothing, dhl having a free milling slide propping up one of their depots and the sender having crap feedback.
Eventually by sheer pain in the bum persistance I managed to get access to the notes on it, and after 6 alleged failures to deliver (at least 4 of which I was home and we had two dogs at the time so no chance to miss them) wrote by the delivery driver in france was "no longer lives at this address, a neighbor has told us".

UPS and DHL now seem to come via france 36, or sitram, both of which know very well where i live and always arrive. In fact I had a delivery the other day and the driver said he'd been my other (now rented out) house first before reading the actual address on the sheet

I have given them the benifit of the doubt 2 or 3 times, each time they have ballsed up.

The one that realy got me, they tried to deliver, but no one in. Phoned the number on the card, they said it was in the Exeter depot..... drives to Exeter, spneds 20 mins in there, to be told, 'Oh, it must be in the Plymouth depot' (i was living in Plymouth then ) which was barely 5 mins away....
Damaged parcels, lost parcels... you name it.

Oh. It was there own wagon this end. Mind you for the price it was - it would have cost them that in juice.

TNT are far & away the best of a bad bunch in my experience...not cheap, but you get what you pay for everytime
