Glad everyone here is sound, as i cannot search anymore or i will loose what little hair i have left!

Loads n loads of great info and the tutorial is very well explained but i am getting my head fried with all the different Paints and primers and there uses so i must ask...

I need to protect a bare metal mild steel frame of my buggy project, at least the welds from moisture and corrosion for 6 months - 1 year, while i will still be working on and around the frame i cannot get it into paint for a while yet.

as simple an answer as possible please lol.

others will soak up moisture and possibly end up with rust under the primer

Perfect! i had red that but then the usual and someone disputed the fact and so on and so forth lol. What a waste of a post eh! might as well ask then, Just Degrease then straight on with epoxy?

rough up the surface if you can for a good key , degrease and on with the primer

Right i do apoligise but might aswell get this right first time, after looking for epoxy primers there not too much out there, and the only one that i see that looks ok says its got a long application life at 4 work days :s i was hoping for a bit longer than that lol cv grease would protect longer haha can u clear this up for me? where/what you recommend to get sed primer?

Hope at least someone searching will also find this helpfull, so not as much of a wasted thread as i first thought lol!

I think that means that you can leave it 4 days after mixing before you apply it. I'd hope that it has a little more than 4 days actual life!!!

I think it means that you can leave it up to 4 days before coating it again with paint, if you leave it longer than 4 days you will have to rekey it before applying paint.

yeah id imagine thats recoat time..as in you will need to key it after 4 days

pot life should be a few hours when mixed

if applied right it will last years , its the best you can do

Ahhhh i see crossed my mind as it would not be a strong marketing tool to advertise 4 days overall life lol. As for mixing that was just a rattle can for convinience, though i think il get some of the real mix yourself stuff.

What brands all you artists out there use?? Seems not alot epoxy primers to choose from, Course maybe its me haha

Sometimes they're under industrial coatings in the sites. And some sites only list the makers names they flog and not every paint. I've only used Lechler which is easily available for me (and also from paints4u.com online) and a PPG one (DP40) which I didn't like so much.
Lechler do a specific thinner but 2k thinner works fine.

Good solid advice from Chipper, I use Lechlar too, never found another epoxy to beat it.
