As above...I am almost too embarrassed to ask on here and have to fess up to this idiotic blunder.
Just been welding something for a mate and somehow managed to position my earth cable right underneath the job where I was welding it. The obvious happened and my new welder now has an inch of uninsulated earth cable.
It's a Clarke 151 en, anyone know where to get a new earth cable for it? It's the one with the nice plug on the machine end to plug into the welder, not sure if they come off so I could just replace the wire part (and get a new earth clamp while I'm at it). Oh and cost if anyone knows.

It will be fine. Save you a few quid you don't really need to spend. We have a few 30-odd metre leads; if we replaced them every time there was a nick or a burnt bit out of them, i'd be living in a cardboard box

I think most of ours have no insulation on the first 2inches at the earth clamp end.

Tape it up, it'll be alright.

Insulting tape Two or three layers will have it good as new.

You can make it look better than insulation tape - go to Maplin and get some "heat shrink sleeving" get a size thats a bit bigger than insulation size. Take the clamp off and slip a length of it over the cable , use a heat gun (hair dryer) to shrink the sleeving. It will look pukka professional for a couple of quid

Brilliant, not only have I saved a few quid but regained some recently lost self respect. Shrinkl wrap it is I think as I want to keep it all looking nice and shiny for as long as I can.

Whatever you do dont go to your locally welding shop to buy a new one.

It will cost you a fortune. Because you will come out with a couple of tins of galv spray, a new welding helmet, hat, gloves, an earth cable longer than the one they use to weld the top of chimneys (well it might come in handy to be a bit further away from the machine) and a desire for that new shiney welder the nice man was chatting to you about while he put all your purchases in through the till.
