Most of the deck on our 42" ride on was rotted out and I rebuilt it last year. I had looked at replacement decks but they were made of very thin metal but I used 2mm steel! I got a local engineering firm to roll 2 hoops of steel the same width and diameter as the sides of the deck, save me a lot of bending.
I was given an old honda steel deck mower, was told it wasn't working and was destined for the skip. I put petrol in it and it started second pull! Unfortunately it was billowing out black smoke and it wouldn't stop - I had to stuff a rag into the inlet to choke it.
I checked the oil level and found the problem - someone had literally filled it with oil! I drained out 2.5L of oil, it's only supposed to have 0.6L in it! The oil had wend everywhere, I had to flush out the manifolds & carbs and jetwash the exhaust.
I have it all back together and running sweet as a nut and it will start literally first pull every time. It is a professional quality machine and I've never seen a lawnmower that can fill the grassbox as well as this one. I was going to sell it but I might keep it and sell our own as it can be a pig to start.
