Hyundai generators

Evening all. My elderly mother has asked me to get her a genny for power cuts ect. Despite only living 2 Miles from ferrybridge c she gets cut off now and again even though I live in the next street and my supply is fine!
So I've been looking at suit case style ones and came across the blue Hyundai ones. Obviously Honda are best but also pricey. The Hyundai aren't cheap but are cheaper.
Anyone any experience with them, any good?

If she lives in a built up area beware of the noise from some of the small generators make, I have a KDE2200 diesel backup genny and it's LOUD!

It's been like it for years. The last power cut lasted over 24 hrs. The other houses 50ft away in next street unaffected! Just seems to be her street.
It may not happen again but she just wants peace of mind.

have you thought about what she wants to run of it, if it isn't much have you thought about batteries and an inverter, no noise and she would only have to switch it on

It's to mainly run lights although she is now blind and to keep the heating running.

if you intend to run the house lights and heating system you will obviously need a changeover switch back feeding is illegal, then there is also the problem of it being overloaded easily if its going to be a small genny, kettles can use nearly all a 2.2 kva genys output

None of that is a problem as she has had to use my brother's genny quite a bit in the past. Only issue is knowing what is any good besides Honda kit?

But seriously I am pleasantly surprised by the KDE2200, it's loud but so far has worked well. Admittedly I don't work it hard but it's been a good machine, the electric start is a real bonus as the hand start nearly pulls my arm out of it socket! I picked it up at agricultural auction for £80 as a gamble, changed the tar in the sump for oil and put a set of filters and a battery on it and it started up straight up. Just remember that the far eastern machines power outputs are overrated 2.2Kva is intermittent the max running load is 1.8Kva.

So yours is a kipor then, I have the bigger silent version kdw6700 but it doesn't have original alternator so I get full rating from it and it cost me in total a massive 20 quid when I got it

Heh - I live less than two miles from Drax Power Station, and similarly suffer regular power cuts during stormy weather. Last Friday 7pm-2am, Sunday 2pm-6pm and 7pm-5am. Hopefully Powergrid have found the fault with the overhead lines this time. So galling when you can see the bright lights of the power station glowing away when you're sitting in the dark!

I was looking at kipor as well. Are they a decent make or just some more Chinese tat?

The one I have was used originally to supply power to a barge that a mate lives on and wasn't maintaining it propery it went up in flames, it has 1300 hours on it and runs fine, my earlier post should have said a kde6700.
as to whether they are any good, here is my experience of them, when new it ran for around 800 hours then wouldnt start he had various people strip it down and mess with it before eventually asking me to look at it, turned out the starter wasnt spinning fast enough, next proplem a broken inlet valve at the top where the collets fit then finally as above the fire but to be fair he was never carfull filling it and for what ever reason unknowingly managed to burn out the starter motor which caused the fire but ever since the rebuild it runs perfectly and as will all things they need to be serviced properly
