Hydraulic Jack spares

For many years at the yacht club we have used a varied set of hydraulic jacks for jacking boats on & off trollies & general yard work. Most popular & useful have been a set of Tangye Hydraclaw 5 ton Toe jacks, probably ex railway. Over the years they have become leaky & a couple of years ago some new ones were purchased, which are based on an ordinary generic chinesium bottle jack with toe cage added onto the outside as an afterthought.
Yesterday i happened to pass by to see a trolley full of old jacks outside the storage container, "Whats happening to those?" i ask. "They are going in the skip as scrap" says the man who knows the price of everything & the value of nothing.
And so they leapt into the boot of my car. Deal is If i can get them fixed we have two good jacks or sell them, If i cant we scrap them.
So I have two Tangye Hydraclaw 5 ton Toe Jacks, these have a square topped ram, also one Magnus Magnaclaw 5 ton toe jack, this one looks a bit more modern.

Any idea where i can get seals etc for older models? Looking at the price of brand new Tangye jacks they are £2,100 each!

Take the old seals out and carefully measure them, od/id thickness etc. Then either look online or ebay for seal suppliers. If you have a good hydraulic spares supplier nearby just take the old ones along. Most hydraulic equipment will use standard sizes. Have just done similar with an old 10 ton Nike ram that I have.

I’ve got some of tangye hydralite jacks that I’ve purchased second hand, all have leaked and just replacing the ram seals has repaired them. The older ones I have use standard imperial hydraulic seals and the slightly newer one has a metric seal. A local hydraulic seal - bearing supplier has been able to source them without issue and at a reasonable price compared to the prices tangye want to charge for a a repair kit.

Similar problem with a hydraulic ram for the autopilot on a Swan yacht. It was leaking, so I did a bit of reasearch and found an agent in Spain for the US manfacturer. They replied quickly, but no spares as too old.
Stripped it down and pulled the seals, local big hydraulic place had similar, but not quite, so machined the housings a little to fit them. Cost pennies and sorted the problem.

The 5 ton hydraclaw still seems to be a current model as tangye still show a Seal kit for it
