Welcome to the forum.
A mate of mine makes stunning pieces from old cutlery, spanners and other assorted cast offs. They are all donated by friends or picked up as scrap. He does have a very good vision of what he is aiming for along with considerable artistic skill.
Worth considering if Mr poshbit is artistic.

Current tools:
200amp MIG welder - grinder with various discs - drills - vice - usual 'domestic' tools - indoor workshop

Lots of welders & artists use cleaned up & polished old steel spanners , hammers & chisels etc along with all sorts of sizes nuts bolts & washer to make art work . Some also use stainless steel cutlery if they have a TIG machine
My pal Paul Southwell from Glinton , Peterborough is one such guy , he displays at the Comicon event in Lincoln each year .

Old door skins or roof skins from scrap yard cars are cheap and easy to get, with a cordless angle grinder. Ideal sheet metal for little projects
