Finally the old Clarke 120 is welding like a beaut. Found the reg over reads by about 8cfm. Cleaned the wire new euro torch clened the pots. Need to replace the wire feed one but all is well.

Had some lovely vert up practice welds.

Funny question maybe.....WHY do you want to cut the shroud down??
Yeah a good clean out and new liners always does miracles!

Personal preference I like my contact tip inline with the shroud

Ok....i hate that when it happens...you have never had any trouble with it? Like melting the shroud and tip together or things like that?

No haven't had any issues like that. It does help you keep the shroud of what you welding. Makes seeing what you are doing easier.

Ah that's why you cut it down! We all have our own preferences i guess, i like to weld with a lot of stickout so i never really have the issue of not seeing my weld! If it happens tho i slightly change the position and/or angle of my torch "et voilà"

If you're welding a deep open root bevel it's almost essential to have you're tip at least 6mm beyond the shroud.you can cut it back or there are adjustable shrouds that twist back.
