Hss hole cutters

Morning everyone.
Can anyone recommend a good quality set of Hss hole cutters.they will be used for sheet steel on car body work and also used in a tube notcher...

I've got Starret one's in my tube notcher.

Be aware of pitch in the teeth. I only use straight teeth on metal.
I think irwin and staratt come from the same people they are identical
Duel pich seem to grab and break teeth straight pitch will last until I wear the teeth down.
Don't know about thinner than 3 mm but work with them a fair amount from 3 -12 mm thick ms 17 mm and 22 mm in the main

Good point about the teeth. Will have a Google and see what I can find..

I can tell you not to get the toolstation ones a couple of holes through car panels and they are fit for the bin

I just had a look at starret Website. They do some nice sets to..

Try Lenox hole saws, they knock the spots off Starrett...

Pricey but our lads use them regularly.

I have some of these Morse hole saws. Are they constant pitch? Is vari-pitch kind of like big tooth then small tooth?

I got the name wrong and they call them "dual-pitch" .....like these.

That morse looks to be constant pitch

I have bought and used some toolpan ones 8%colbalt for stainless etc seem ok as yet 50mm was £6
102 was 10

screwfix hole saws but use starret arbour and pi;ot drill . chaper makes are crap break and run off . use cutting compund as well on slow speed

I have a set of Starrett, top gear IMO.

getting a drill that is slow enough is a difficult job even my hand held no1 mt struggles at low speed I think it is 0-500 rpm and 0-900 second gear
tried the other day with one of my mag drill, with lube but it took the teeth off in no time I am thinking it might be something to do with the magnet seems to rattle a lot when the mag is turned on and you can see the saw pull.

The speed recommended is on the sheet in the box! Big yes to some cutting lube

Most are designed for wood not metal, teeth will be too sharp and weak. Cobalt ones and designed for metal will be much better

I wouldnt buy these as plain HSS, but they are on clearance a lot cheaper than normal..

I use oil, ignore the cutting speeds run mains drill as fast as it goes. Have not dulled or broke any teeth yet.

Starett cutters are probably the best choice for light duty, but Rotabroach will take you to a next level, especially for pipe related work.

You will damage these things if you cut too fast. I have burned a few up finding that out. Also once you get over tooth depth you will get through much faster if you pick the chippings out that stop in the cut ( just use your scriber). If you leave them in you can get to a stalemate situation and the cutting stops with the bit still spinning merrily away

Hi guys..so my best choice is starret cutters with streight teeth for tubing notcher.and cutting fluid..I use that with everything I drill/cut.
