how to tackle this (bodywork)

Hi guys i am looking for advice on how to tackle fixing these holes-rot as i have not tackled this sort of thing before but got to start somewhere.The first bit is tucked under the outer wing a bit so if i want to cut it out im not sure what to use (air body saw) dont think ill get at it with anything else if even that.It has been patched before,I dont want to take the outer wings off if i can help it as they are good.The second bit is at the bottom front of the passenger inner wing and if you look closely you will see it has also been patched before and with corosion and help from me and a chisel it is now peeling off.The chassis leg is good even if it doesnt look great in the pic, after it was taken it cleaned up well so should i just cut out a rectangle and butt weld in new metal here, cheers for any help advice guys.

what is it? take the bonnet off and prepare to be uncomfortable. I tend to get violent first then fix the bigger hole I have just made. Look from both sides of the holes if possible, ones normally easier than the other.

Well just mot at the moment i think cause i want to get it on the road before the summers over then maybe fix properly over winter.

Mot work is about covering the holes so he cant see them anymore, good prep and neat welds, thin stuff would do as its just an elastoplast over the problem.

no mater what the keyboard thief states remember that the problem will still be there, it will not go away, it will come back and if you dont fix the problem soon enough it will come back with vengence

Rust like that has got to be a Metro.

You can't weld to rust so look how far back you'll have to chop to get to solid metal. On my Metro I would have had to cut back from the front bumper to the rear seats.

bonnet stay/hinge is similar to fairline rear seat hinges ...

think i'd be tempted to have the wing off!! replacement wings for lots of cars arent really that expensive these days and you would probably find a lot more rot to take care of while you are at it. Better you find it now and sort it rather than the mot man finding it later. If you cant get all round the repair easily then he is like to pick fault with your welding!!

Yes, that. It looks as though you have rust around one of the ARB brackets, at least. But we're dying to know what car it is!

If you can in any way remove the parts, you'll be saving yourself a heap of work. Most prof welders who can weld out of position (and I can't) will go to a lot of trouble to not weld out of position. These photo's show how bad Tectyl can be. It is just a nice warm blanky for the rust lice to breed under. It is also interesting on the rear wing how slow the car rotted and how fast the added little sheet of steel rotted
