how to stop a car rusting while you are doing fabrication

what do you all use to stop a car rusting while you are doing fabrication I've heard using some sort of penetrating oil with no Silone but cant find where I seen it.

Just rub engine oil all over the panel and wipe clean with petrol when you're about to spray them.

Personally I don't use it as I don't have flash rusting problems but many of my friends run cars in bare metal and just keep the steel coated in Gibbs reguarly and they don't seem to have any problems, They say there are no overcoating problems when it comes to paint time but I have my doubts, I really can't see how something like Gibbs that lubricates etc etc isn't going to get into the structure of the steel.

that is what I think myself its has to get in to double skinned panels and then when you panel it would bleed out. I think ill just prime as I go and then sand of when get ready for paint.

I used Gibbs Brand on my Renault. Worked well keeping the rust off inside but wasn't effective outside. No trouble over painting even though it isn't possible to get it out of the seams.

For stuff underneath I tend to use a primer which seems to keep the rust off well enough.

Is that a R4 if so the ones I worked on rusted faster than I could weld
