Stripping my fortis lathe down but am a little unsure what to do with the spindle. Before I resort to brute force I thought I should ask.
I've done this before on another lathe and once I got to this stage I knocked the spindle through the back gear and pulley assembly with a rubber mallet.
On this one though, the bull gear lock would be taking all the force.
I've been gently trying to pry the pulley and bull gear apart thinking if I can get the lock pin out I can knock the spindle through as on the other lathe.
They have parted a little, but not much.
Any tips?
Also, the bearing retainers on both ends have these grooves. Should they have a seal? O ring maybe?
