How to price a job?

I was recently asked to built a water feature and a BBQ charcoal tray and grill to be used in a display garden at the Shrewsbury Flower Show. My other half is there all weekend (the company she works for have built a garden there) and has had a lot of folk expressing an interest in the items, so she's taken their numbers.
The steel used for the items was laser-cut and bent on the press brake at work, so I have a program to replicate them if needs be, but the steel was from off-cuts out of the scrap skip so I have no idea of cost.
Also been asked by one of the guys who built the garden if I can make a water feature from stainless for his own garden: not a problem to build but no idea of pricing.
Any ideas on how to go about this without been greedy? It would be nice if this went somewhere... maybe I can give up the 'day job'

work out how much steel is needed and cost
add your time to build
and add a little profit

NO add on a big wedge of profit, price it by the hour. Add on a good amount then add on a haggle factor. This is a posh flower show. A small perrcentage of peoplego there to spend serious money. Help them out.
If somebody wants it enough they will pay it. Occasionally you get a shock.
I recently sold a mornings work for over £200. I had priced it wrong, but they did not query it.

To price the steel get a quote from a company known to be expensive, that is your material cost, buy it elsewhere if you can. Will your company supply you personally? from the skip??

I've looked at Metals4U (am I allowed to post a link?) for prices for a rough idea, and thought about my 'day job' hourly rate x 2 (this should cover consumable costs like gas, wire, leccy, and tea bags). Any thoughts?
My company will supply me personally from the scrap skip... as long as I stay on the nightshift
Seriously though, I know who supplies us with steel and unless you're buying shedloads it ain't gonna pay.

I get steel from M4U - probably not the cheapest but you don't need to buy vast quantities from them.

I also find they do stuff in 2 lengths and the longer the length the better the price. But massively so.

If you can (dont know what your employer is like..) see if they are ok with you buying stock from them to take advantage of their discount if you are going to do jobs legit so to speak. If you do give up your day job remember to factor in that you "pay" your holiday pay etc. Good luck with it.

Giving up the day (night?) job is a very distant twinkle at the end of a bloody long tunnel, but you never know...
If I'd engaged my brain a little earlier I could've displayed a gas bottle woodburner, they'd have loved that, what with re-cycling waste materials and all that jazz.
I could even have furnished it with a sizeable price tag... someone would buy it... have you seen the price of Hot Pods?
