Hey all,
I'm hoping someone can maybe give me a bit of advice here and this is the right place to be asking.
I have been tempted to buy myself a welder now for quite a few years, started a course before lockdown and then never got back to it. I now need some brackets for a floating bench in our garden and seeing the price of them I thought his is the perfect opportunity to buy myself a welder and make them myself. I had read that a lot of places will sell offcuts and I think these brackets will be the sort of size that I might be able to pick up the materials cheap.
the bench is 5m, 2.5m on each wall in a corner, something like this:
the brackets I have found on ebay are like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/35537512...58132039&google_free_listing_action=view_item
however I have been doing a bit of research and was thinking that I could maybe weld box section to m16 threaded bar instead like this:
I would like the bracket to be hidden completely. Would anyone have any opinions on this design and if it would work. the wall is made from breeze block, lying flat. I was thinking of using chemical resin for the threaded rod, the box section would actually need to come out 400mm, I am planning on the bench being 450mm deep.
I know this isn't the place to be discussing machines for people new to welding but from what I have read I will need a 200A machine, some places I have read are suggesting I can get away with gasless Mig weld for this while some other post in forums I have been reading seem to suggest that ARC weld would be better.
If anyone can give me any pointers I would reall appreciate it.
Thanks
