How to make a video of mig welding?

I am looking for advice on how to attach a video camera to my mig welder.
I have a standard Lincoln 145 mig welder with the welding handle mounted onto an electric actuator. This part of the machine works very well but I want to view the welding operation on a tv screen away from the torch.
I am concerned that watching this up close could hurt my eyesight over time.
I need to know if I have to put a filter over the camera lens? Are there special settings on the camera? I don't care if the image isn't real looking but I need to see the welding path and if the weld is in the groove between the two pieces of steel. It can look like an x-ray or night vision but must stay clear and readable? Does anyone have any experience in this kind of project?

I'd use a welding lens in front of the camera. I used a spare auto dark helmet with mine.

You will probably need to lower the exposure as mine came washed out a bit.

Filming/videoing your welding?

I've seen a few videos online that were quite good and wouldn't mind having a go myself. I did once try sticking the camera phone inside the helmet but it wasn't ideal. I couldn't seem to get the screen dark enough or maybe the camera was too sensitive at that wavelength (plus I couldn't see owt!). Maybe I need a specialist filter. I've got access to some half decent kit but need a bit of a heads up. Has anyone had any experience/got any advice?

There was and item (link) on the forum to a video promoting a setup that used camers and would project the "better than direct view image" to a screen inside the helmet or a linked monitor. Looked good image. Don't recall the post but was within last 3-4 weeks Maybe someone will recall and put up link
