Hello, after being told an ambulance could take six hours to arrive, my neighbour to me to A&E where I declared I was having a suspected heart attack. That got me past the riff raff with paper cuts etc. One ECG later, not a heart attack but severe pancreatitis. My gall bladder was removed after 10 days, discharged on day 14.
Back to A&E next day feeling worse. A CT scan revealed I now had severe necrotising pancreatitis. Ambulance transfer to UCLH to have a stent fitted between the main area of necrosis and my stomach, all done via my food pipe, amazing.
Back to my hospital, 500ml pus removed from in front of liver using ultrasound to locate and a syringe to suck it out. Discharged later that week with appointments made to have blood tests daily at the hospital.
Went for the blood test, doctor sucked through his teeth and told me I wasn't going anywhere except back to a ward.
Finally discharged 2nd December. October and November are a blur.
I entered hospital end of September weighing 14 and a half stone. I left weighing 12 stone. Paradoxically, the correct weight for my height! But no muscles left.
Things you must take if you stay in hospital.
Quies wax ear plugs (constant beeping, yelling, doors banging, etc)
An eye mask (nurses love turning on lights at 4am to do blood pressure checks etc)
A bottle of squash
Your favourite breakfast cereal
Slippers (the toilets always have a puddle in front of the WC)
Watch the Singing Detective on your phone, the hospital scenes are so true.
