How to insulate a corrugated roof ?

Hi

We have an out building with a half-round corrugated roof that leaks, so we need to replace it and we'd like to stick with half-round profile because we prefer it to modern box profile, but how can we effectively insulate it without spending a lot of money ?

It's a standard apex roof and we'd like to like to keep the inside vaulted rather than fit a flat ceiling.

This. ^^^. I was about to suggest the same thing.

If you try putting anything under corrugated sheet it doesn't work as moisture condenses in the gap.

just buy new corrugated sheets and then buy the standared foam and foam each panel up before fixing onto the roof

if you do this method then you can size up a 50mm or thicker, thickness on each roof panel just remember you need to overlap spo some might not be able to be done

If your replacing the roofing shets, why not just order insulated sheets. Not the cheapest option, but easiest.

Most of the roofing sheet companies will do you insulated sheets, insulation thickness varies between 20mm and about 200.

Yeah, I've already looked at that, whist it's a quick way to replace the roof, it's also a bit on the expensive side, we'd be looking at around £2000. I can nearly slate & insulate it for that.

That's not a bad idea but I'd need atleast 2 of the 600 kits to get a decent thickness of insulation, so that's just over a grand delivered just for the insulation, so I'd be looking at about £1500 for the roof, plus there is the gutters, bargeboards, etc etc

So now I'm now wondering, sod the vaulted roof, chuck a ceiling in with rockwool on top and just have a vapour barrier under the corrugated sheets (I'd still be replacing them) to stop it dripping on the rockwool, I'm just not sure of how to do the vapour barrier when it gets to the wall/bargeboards so that moisture/water can get out but creepy crawlies can't get in, we've already had 2 wasps nests in the garden shed.

So please keep the good suggestions coming.....

ive done it via an apex roof and theres no leaks via the vapour barrier and you can see my apex lap over on the roof

You could do a normal roof like ready for slating with the membrane in just like a house, the sheet instead of slate.

Or you could use the cold roof method

its called a gutter drip edge


the vapour barrier just goes on top of this

with my build i insulated the rafters knowing the vapour barrier would allow the wood to breath no problem
