How to choose a gas strut?

Hi all,

I have built a box for a customer which has two doors that open upwards and i need to fit gas struts. Ive been given a sheet a company that supplies them that asks a load of questions which i dont quite understand. Is there any on here who can explain (with jargon free information), how i can figure out how to choose the gas struts i need?

I thought i would just need to tell them the weight of the door and how far i need the doors to open but the question sheet is something that the boys at Nasa would struggle to understand

Give them simple drawing, weight, stroke, we have used them for a number of years very helpful.
another thing is they can increase pressures if not strong enough but cannot let them down.

Are they not adjustable ? The ones we used to fit at work had a little grub screw at the bottom of the cylinder, if it was too strong we just let a bit of the gas out.

BUT do that slowly as you cannot put gas back in and if you let out TOO MUCH it won't be any good to you.

I know you still have to work out how strong a ram you need but at least you can err on the side of being too strong if you get adjustable ones...

This has reminded me I need to replace the ones on my Snap-On top box ! And of course they don't correspond to a standard stock item !

We used to get a rep in, he would do all the measurements & calculations and tell us which model to use, wether we bought from them was a different matter
