I can't remember where I got it, but it makes drilling centred holes in round bar/pipe far simpler.
Just clamp the lot in a vice making sure the jig is level, and drill. If you need a smaller hole than the size of drill for the jig, just use it to create a dimple, then swap to whatever size drill you need.
No having to worry about lining things up, or the drill wandering trying to start on centre.
The bits of bar I'm working with are 25mm diameter. I may end up using 20mm for the one that needs to be machined.
Some great suggestions. My worry is that I need to in effect notch a 12.5mm radius into the end of a short length of round bar. Won't putting a 25mm drill bit in close to the end result in the drill deflecting eventually?
I was thinking it may be easier to use a 25mm annular cutter with a mt2 arbor in the pillar drill?
If the round bar does need to go in the toolpost one of those cheap centre finders poked in the lathe's chuck would help get you to the correct centre height in seconds, then centre drill and away you go.
Can be fixed in Collet or the drill chuck. Skylark Tools comprises of a dedicated and skilled team of engineers with an aim of providing you tools of highest Indian industrial standards. Situated at the industrial hub of India we specialize in providing complete tooling solutions.
