Bit of an odd question for my first post. I have been reading the forum for a while but never had a question, do now so here goes.
I'm a jeweller and use oxy and propane to solder / weld with a small torch, think it's a BOC sapphire. Low temp soldering of gold and silver needs no eye protection but when doing any welding, melting gold or soldering platinum I use a selection of tinted shields I have acquired over the years. Not ideal but sort of works.
I did once try a cheap auto darkening mask but it was very tinted to start and then would go too dark realized it's mistake and go lighter again flashing on and off. But that was very old cheap technology.
Having watched a few videos of Tig welding with the crystal I feel it would be worth the business investment if it worked for me as my hands would be free and it would adjust the tiny to keep me safe.
I'm sure melting and soldering platinum creates a bright enough light as I need eye protection but I'm not creating a huge amount of light and there is no ark to trigger a helmet.
I'm not expecting another jeweller to be in here but has anyone any useful experience.
I look forward to any input, Stephen
