How much wieght will my Kearny Trecker mill table hold

As the title says.
I want to put some thing quite heavy on it but dont know if its to much wieght. I have search the net but as yet nothing found

Cheers will now have to wiegh the piece Bye the way I use your dividing head for the first time a few weeks ago had to cut new splines on a shortend drive shaft, the head makes easy work for the job

There's a mention in this thread that a Bridgeport is OK for 750lbs. Your machine is a little more robust than a Bridgeport.

I could not find anything related to your question here, but are you aware of the vast resource on these machines at vintagemachinery.org? http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=2098&tab=3

If you can set the work up so you do any Z-axis work only with the quill, you can use additional independent outboard supports to spread the load (see David Wilks' YT where he uses an adjacent machine to support long trepanning tools while he works on the cutting edge on the BP).

Agrosheild yes a very useful site,I got all my manuals from the vintage machinery org unforunatly no mention of wiegh capacity. I will have a look at the David Wilks idea

Shafts for what are these then?
Aand, if you cut the splines with a vertical cutter, how did you set the height please?

The shaft is for a tractor post hold borer I am putting togeter for father using an old rear axle.



to cut the splines the shaft was in a indexing head and the milling table goes up and down to get centre of the shaft. Hopefully this photo will explains as I am no good at explaining

Well what I wanted to know was how you measured and set the centre to centre between tool and shaft?
I'm thinking either adjust the cutter body to contact the top of the shaft, pull out, then do some maths to calculate the amount to lower the cutter. Or, get a height gauge and measure up from the table for work and cutter centres?

Yes, that's right. It is difficult to measure the cutter or work centre directly but top, bottom and thickness/diameter are easy.

The other way is as Doubleboost shows quite often for lathe tools: trap a thin steel rule between cutter and work. If the top leans away from you, the cutter is too high. Keep adjusting the height so the rule is vertical. Old Chinese proverb: mark I eyeball rarely wrong.

Thats the way I did it trapped a thin steel rule between cutter and the work, I normally creep in to the work moving the table or quill up and down till i just touch the work piece, but after I watched Doubleboost's video I wouldnt do it any other way now simple love the way Doubleboost simplifies thing with no bull

I was going to have a go at fly cutting it but have changed my mind,”ok father changed my mind” he reckons there plenty of space for my needs left unmarked.

Sod fly cutting that, that's a @pressbrake1 job cant see a fly cutter lasting the whole job.
