They're called easylifts. They come in varying sizes. They're well engineered things and have an internal cable winch and each clamping portion has a half inch square drive slot where a glorified ratchet with a crank handle is used to wind up the section. You start at the top section wind it up, lock the clamp, next section etc. until you're up to the required height. There's a safety ratchet on each one that needs depressing to wind it back down.
They have a SWL of 80kg and a lift of around 6m depending on the number of sections. The can get a bit lairy if it's breezy so a couple of guys stand on the legs to weigh them down. They can lift a wheel if the wind gets up even with a man on them. There are loops at the top section for attaching guylines to tie off. They're affectionately known as F'offs due to their weight and the use of language when trying to shift them

This is us 'germanning' an 18kw HMI on a two section easylift off the wagon. To German it: the lamp goes on the ground/tail lift, the stand is leant on its side and lamp spigot is worked into the stand socket and the whole lot is then pivoted up right.

Yeah halogen, they get a tad warm along with their blinding light. 5.7M lumens, about a grand to buy and a 350 hour lifespan. These are busted, the filaments are continuous but have mechanically failed in the ceramics/pins.
Whenever I see tripod's I think about portable, stable, telescope use. Thanks for posting. They're called easylifts. They come in varying sizes. They're well engineered things ………………………………………..
Like the masses of huge extension cables in the van.
Film production?
570,000 Lumens surely?
Awesome all the same - no thanks to the electric bill![]()
Back when I was a kid in the 1960's, I use to marvel when we would see the sky lit up with a carbon arc search light; usually it was for a grand opening of something. There is even a website for and about them...…. www.victorysearchlights.com .
Are they still going? There's a company not too far from me that make searchlights, Francis, some of the older ones are stunning things.
Are they still going?
Awesome!
