Just a thought about how long mig and tig have been used in industry I can remember mig in the early 60s but can't recall tig back then .

TIG was WWII for aircraft frames wasn't it? Not for Mosquitos though obviously.

It started out as heliarc because of the gas used, and being american it became a trademark as Heliarc.

Just read the page on the history of mig and tig, I never thought it went back that far. They must have been very forward thinking people.

Being at war does give a sense of urgency and tends to untie government and company purse strings.
