How long to weld this box up.....

I'd be interested to know your combined thoughts on this. I'd like and would appreciate your views on how long this box will take to tig up. its already lasered and foldered from 2mm 316, and approx size is 150 x 150 x 120, plus cage nuts, and 4 runs at 150 each accross the mounting straps.

No prizes, just trying to estimate weld time......

For me and for a one off no more than 15 - 20 mins, In a batch a bit less, and I would like to make a tidier job of it as well

yeah, 20mins would do that. But then it could be a lot less depending on how good the fit up was

me ,im 15 and not had much TIG time ,i would say 30 mins actual weld time

Drains, youve hit it on the head, thats exactly the problem i have at the moment.....

I thought the welders should be able to clear 4 per hour....

I am looking at costings at the moment to set a small cell up making these....

Batch run? 10 mins tops....

Then 20 mins to fill in all the holes blown through it

If it were a case of "here's all the pieces, tack it up and weld it", then I'm looking at it thinking 30 mins including the lid, but I've been told before that I'm not the quickest tig welder ever.

Everything will be lasered and foldered, so in theory it should just weld up with a clamp and tack tither and dither....

welder Paul, do you do much 316 sheet work, as this maybe in your line. Bust this work is very cost driven. PM if you want to take a look.

If I ran a fab shop (which I don't, and probably for good reason), I'd probably have 2 people on it, 1 tacking 'em up and the other just welding, probably alow 7/10mins for the guy tacking and 15/20 mins for the bloke welding (factoring in going to the bog, stopping to light ciggies, change gas, sharpen tungstens, take a sip of water etc..). But I guess you'd have to factor in the 2nd wage, against the time saved/increased profit.

Oh, yes..... not to mention the old.....

"Someone painted my windows black last night, and i didn't realise it was morning, thats why i was late honest." routine..... " i'll start welding as soon as i've brushed my hair, and eaten my cornflakes".....

Thought it was just me that had those problems....

Not that far off the mark then. It all depends on how well they are folded. A good fit up and it's a few tacks and run it in, If it's not been folded very well, then you could be using 2/3 lengths of rod it all takes time.
