How do you store your plate steel?

Up until now I've been working on relatively thin (up to 2 mm ) steel and aluminium in 8 foot x 4 foot sheets which I can just about manage, and slide down the side of the guillotine leaning against a wall.

But now I've got my CNC Plasma Table up and running I'm working on much heavier plate - it's come to a head as today I've taken delivery of 6 off 8 x 4 sheets of 6 mm plate at about 140 kg's each !
I reckon that's potentially dangerous if left propped against a wall - they are heavy enough to squash somebody

I need to store them upright as no space to lay them down - so suggestions please

If you have space then a proper plate storage rack secured to the floor is the answer, google images will provide you with styles galore.

Just put 2 posts 6 foot apart and a few inches from the wall you wish to lean against and bolt them down
Repeat for as many compartments as you need
2 m12 concrete anchors per post they wont go anywhere if the post have a reasonable size foot and the bolts can be inline with the post so the plates wont snag as they are slid in

Yes it is dangerous proper up. It was once common practice but now you need a rack. I once had the misfortune to watch a workmate get his leg turned to mush whilst wriggling out a sheet from behind some stacked up. The surgery sort of fixed it but he had to wear a special boot afterwards because it was a good bit short of his other leg after. I myself have a real big scar that I got 30years ago when some prat was rushing moving sheets with me.
Store them flat in a rack and drag them out with great care and use lifting gear if they warrant it!

Sounds good enough to prevent injury and save time pulling out the correct size though. Working with sheet and plate is always very space hungry though. If you don't really have to set up for it strike a deal with a firm that does Imo

Mine is a frame made from box that it slides into.
