How do I repair the side of my garage door.

Wood hates me and I hate it back!

The wood has gone rotten at side of my garage door where it touches the concrete floor. I think there is a technique for replacing just the bottom without putting in complete new side piece. I don’t know how to do this perhaps the carpenters out there can give me some advice. Thanks

dig a bit of concrete out splice the frame about 12 inch above the rot scarf joint at 45 degrees glue and screw the new piece in drill and fasten it to the wall with long screws a bit of cement back round the bottom and jobs a gudun

Basically cut and shut the wooden bit.

don't forget to seal the bottom as well as the rest of the new bit before you fit it

in future redecorate more often! (pot kettle black) one of mine looks worse than yours

its roughly like this but it depends on what is on the sides

if its just a single plank all the way up then its easier to use a joint angle cut

That's scarfing @ATGNI I've normally seen it at a 45° angle, but don't quote me on that, I'm not a wood botherer.

for long thin boards 1" in situe

if you use a scarf joint it will lift the wood off the ground but you will have issues with that wedge as it really needs to go through the material and trimmed both sides

there is an alternative you can use though

I did think of using metal at the bottom as it a not actually structural. I just thought it would probably rust quickly
