how can i work out if tyre will fit wheels

have tried a few online ones and most say for a 15x6 rim the max is 205 tyres, but i know someone who has 215 tyres on a 15x6 so not sure if these online calculators are just showing what is technically the max, rather than what can be achieved.

basically i want to know if a 235/75/15 will fit on a 15x6 rim...google brings up posts from forums that say yes and no...

235mm is 9.25 inches it could make the tyre the wrong shape

The tyre you want is 3/4 in bigger then recommended, try one and see how it looks

without being the bringer of doom etc, watch yourself with insurance, mot's etc, wrong tyres on rims etc, could lead to invalid insurance etc, the bggers are always looking for a get out clause, this would be it on a plate..

Ask the tyre manufacturer. Certainly BF Goodrich quote figures for max and min widths of rim for certain tyre sizes. I'm sure other manufacturers will have similar data.

There's nothing in the MOT about tyre sizes on rims, only tread depth and condition of tyre. Insurance will go by the tyre manufacturers recommendations in regards tyre and rim size.

think i will be better off with wider wheels...can get adapters to take LR wheels and better range of sizes then

*EDIT, just been informed by a lad in the local 4x4 club that most of the lads with 15x6 wheels run the above mentioned tyres and they are fine with a 2" lift but get rubbing on full lock...

We have 215 section BFG ATs on 5.5" wheels but that's the absolute minimum the manufacturer quotes. I suspect that 235 on 6" will be too much of a squeeze.

thinking about it 215 75 15's would probably be fine for me to be honest...only for plodding around a slushy farm in tractor tracks etc...i only wanted teh 235's as they come with a lift kit and a saving of about 250 quid...may still be cheaper to buy 8" wide wheels though and then would have a set of road tyres and wheels and a set of off road too

Why not stick with 7.50 x 16 ?
I will GIVE you / "Free to Collector" a set of five LWB Land Rover rims with aggressive 7.50 road tyres. Tyres - two good, 1 reasonable, I acceptable (passed MOT) and spare needing replacement.
They are Michelins like these -

What vehicle are they for ? I've got a set of 4 alloys in good condition with 235 tyres that will fit Suzuki, Jeep & Daihatsu possibly for sale. Here they are on my Mahindra (bull bar & side steps binned and currently has Vitara steel wheels) -

Not sure what vehicle it will be for yet but it will be a jap, either Jimmy, vitara or sj, bidding in a Jimmy at the moment that failed mot on bits I will be changing anyway but think it's going to go for too much...got a guy willing to part with a vitara if I do a bit of work for him on his disco and another guy willing to part with a mostly finished sj413 with a 1.6 vitara engine in it...just waiting to see what happens with te Jimmy on eBay first

The vitara and sj are all ready to go off road too, the Jimmy is t and needs lift kit and tyres but it failed on 2 springs and a shock anyway so no worries there
