Hot-start, Arcforce, Antisticking

I'd like to know how much usefull are these functions in a stick welder using rutil rods.

Gian,
Can be handy features - hot start can prevent 'cold shuts' when continuing a weld run and easier strike on part used rods. Not so good for open root welds where the extra current can cause blow through. I don't play with arcforce a lot as it can cause a lot of spatter if increased too much. Still can be useful for increasing/reducing penetration. W/A

I've seen that several welders, most welder that have these functions to be right , control the MMA parameters automatically by the microprocessor.
In some other welders instead, not necessary more expensive than the other ones, the operator can set the hot-start and above all the arc-force. Usually the anti-sticking is self controlled by the welder.

When do you think the adjustable arc-force and hot-start could be a better choice than let the machine do it itself?
Does it depend most on the used rods, such as basic rods are known as hard to start, or some other parameters play a role?

i have a miller dynasty a top of the range welder with every sort of adjustable parameter you can imagine, my friend has a little esab caddy with just an on/off switch and a dial for the amps! his is much easier and i find it much smoother than mine! hope this gives you an idea

I think its only the synergie type power plants that give automatic control. On the MMA machines I've seen (and own) both arc force and hot start are set manually, although there are manufacturers default settings. W/A

do you really think that the hot-start option cuold be macke an inportant difference welding the rutil rods?

I do leave mine on the default setting for most welding but turn it off for pipework rooting - especially using cellulose rods. W/A
