Hose Extension for Mig Welding

My son recently talked of extending his hose length on our mig to about 25 feet. Some have said that this doesn't work well. Does anyone have experience with this length of hose? Thanks!

The hose to the bottle or the torch lead?
Tbe bottle hosse won't matter, but the torch will. I got a 4m for my conversion but should have done 3
You wil also need the earth wire extended for the torch.
You also dont mention the type of welder or why you he want to do this

Not all migs will take a 5 metre extension. the rollers can't push the wire that far

As you are probably talkin re the hose from the regulator you might have to increase the diameter to keep the flow a small hose causes significant drag at low pressure so you might have to go to 8-10mm I use quick release air line couplings on mine so its easy to change welders and have used an air line extension when struggling to save moving big bottle round

Turn the pressure up on the regulator ? I hope he means the gun cable and would think he will struggle with feed and actually finding anything over 4 metres at a price that will make it a viable option.

The problem with turning up the pressure is when you first strike up you get a massive blast of gas because it has equalized along its length, then the gas slows down to the reduced rate. When we used to have mahusive long hoses on burning tackle we had to go to Big hoses to get the consistent gas flow.

I use a 25' gas hose on my mig with zero problems. Weld aluminum and steel all the time...Bob

My MIG feeder has about 40 feet of hose from the reg to the feeder. The feeder has either a 12 foot or 15 foot gun lead.

I did move the flowmeter to the back of the feeder. That lowers the burst when i start and makes it more convenient to adjust.

No problems.

Separate feeder... longer interconnecting cables.....? longer gas hose.... longer torch.....?
