Horizontal bandsaw stand

Thought I'd post a picture of the stand I made this week for my 6x4 bandsaw. The factory stand was so flimsy it scared me into over engineering this out of 50.50.6mm angle, 50.3mm rectangular box and 3mm plate for the drip tray. The plans for this were taken from the yahoo group, specifically George M Carlson, credit where credit's due!

Wheels and adjustable feet from RScomponants, handle is retractable too which is a nice touch. Few other mods to do yet...

Is it shorter than the original stand?

It is shorter, the inside bed of the vice now sits just under 50cm from the floor (ie the height of the stock from the floor). I felt it was a bit top heavy before anyway but if you have a roller for long lengths it would be checking to see it's minimum height. Also check the length of the entire machine, the plans have the tray as 26"x14" with one inch folded up on all sides but I think it needed to be 28" on the length to allow for an extra securing tab under the vice handle.

It definately is a bit top heavy at the minute, I will have to have a go at that shortly!.

Did you fold the 3mm plate to form the lips?

I carefully ran a grinder with a 1mm disc half way through the plate along the fold lines before giving it some Roger melley with a lump hammer.
