Honey extractor help

I am looking for help trying to find out how best to power a Honey extractor for a friend with out paying £250+ and not use a drill. What type of small motor/motor gearbox would best suit but with a speed of 150-200 rpm and have torque to turn the cage when loaded with 4 or 5 frames. All this stuff is new to me as I don't do electrics, any help or advice would be appreciated. Aidan

Parvalux do some highly geared motors have a search.
When I was in school we kept a fair few hives (20+) & bottled honey I remember turning the handle.
One of the masters was a bee keeper & we were cheap labour

How about a stairlift motor? The ones I've looked at recently were 240v and turned at about 40RPM. Easier to gear up to from that to the speed need with pulleys than to gear down.

Treadmills too might worth a look.

I made a one a few years ago for a friend. I used a bench hand crank grinder for the power supply, with a little modification it worked really well.

I do have a Parvalux motor/gearbox but has 20 rpm but dont know how to get up to 150 ish ,if I put a small pulley 50mm on the extractor what size would I need to put on the motor.

Just be mindful of the fact that gear oil etc could end up in the spinner, there's a wee bit more to the £250 spinners than just turning a cage, they are easier to keep sterile and built to keep contaminants out.

I'd be looking for a secondhand wheelchair motor.

However, I'm always reticent about helping someone else save a a small amount of money by trying to build something to compete with an already developed commercial offering.

How much can you save (factoring in your time and effort) and how much better will your end result be?

If you were a real friend you would be volunteering to turn the handle! I remember helping Grandad harvest honey, he had a big broad double edged knife that was heated in a jug of boiling water then used to slice the wax seals off the combs then we loaded the combs into the extactor. Turning the handle the honey would fly out like golden rain & coat the sides of the extractor drum inches thick. Then it was stop turn the frames round & repeat for the other side. I used to stick fingers in & eat loads of it The wax tops went into a deep tray to drain & i used to eat loads of that as well. The bees were very docile always quite a few got into the kitchen & i never got stung. Happy days.

Thanks for the advice and help there is no great panic as he will not need it for a while. I dont mind putting it together its just I want to get a suitable way of powering it.
