Hi all,
Hope you don't mind me asking a question here as I know some of you, being welders, will be fairly well-versed in this sort of thing.
I recently picked up an old Honda Accord for around £500 - bit of a bargain really, M-plate 2.0 automatic with leather and aircon.
I bloody love this car, but unfortunately while cleaning it the other day I noticed that it seems to be falling prey to the dreaded "Honda rot" - apparently it's extremely common in this one spot on the rear quarter panel just above and to the left of the wheel arch. It's the bit where the fastener attaches that holds the bumper on:
Now, first things first - is the corrosion itself likely to be an MOT fail? I do realise that it is "within x distance of a suspension mounting point", but because it's actually on a seperate panel and not on the body itself I'm not sure if this counts as a fail. Any advice?
It looks like a bit of a horrible job to patch "properly", so if it's not an MOT fail then I'm thinking of just knocking out the rusty bits and reshaping with fibreglass, re-securing the bumper and painting.
Cheers
