Honda MT-5.

Just a bit of a proud Dad post really.

Bought a basket case of an MT-5 many years back for my lad to have a go at fixing and he did with some help from his dad.

Today was the day he was road legal and all credit to him was out all day on a bike he built with no problems at all.

Nice to see an old school bike back on the road, we saved it from the scrapyard.

He's chuffed to bits and rightly so.

Hope you also taught him tarmac is hard, and every car is out to get you too. I learnt that gravel rash is un cool in 1978. Its good to see young ones with an interest in bikes.

He had his armoured hoodie and gloves on today.

Starts his Car Mechanic Apprenticeship this year after his exams.

Wow that brings back memories. I was bought a 2nd hand one in 1990. I was 16 and just started Tech. PXI1037 was the registration, White with red seat and decals. Freedom of the open road at 30mph, or 35 when I changed sprockets and removed the exhaust baffle
Had it until my 17th birthday when I upgraded to a Suzuki GS125. 12HP and 70 mph was a revelation.

My friend had one, the expansion pipe was completely rotten so whole bike was taken to local welder to repair. Welder managed to route the pipe on the outside of the right hand frame rail rendering it unusable unless you had asbestos trousers

I had an MB-5 the road version had a bikini fairing and front disc plus mag wheels from memory , I got 48mph out of it with plenty of mods . Certainly handled better than my C50 step through I had before , wish I kept both old bike prices are crazy at the moment

My mate had the MB(X?)50 Road bike, it was always faster than my MT5. We thought we were some operators on our 50's at 16 Then he got a NS125 F Honda which was way cooler and quicker than my GS125 Suzuki.

MBX 50 was water cooled and came after MT/MB 50s only sold in UK for 3 years i think so they are quite a rare bike now as most had owners for 1 year max then sold on. Cant imagine maintenance or mechanical sympathy high on owners priorities !
