Honda Jazz MK2 O2 Sensor

Lad came in from work last night with his engine fault light lit. Just lit solid not flashing.

Plugged in my cheapo OBD reader gone midnight to find this.

Great cars until they go wrong then can be expensive for parts is my experience so far. Hoping this won't follow suit. I think there's two sensors on the exhaust system. Can't even find a good Honda parts diagram for it. Can't imagine a modern Haynes manual will be any use

From the web I think HO2S22 means Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2, Sensor 2

Going to get the BiL to take a look with his flash OBD tablet think.

I've just put some in my boys Aygo but the light has come back on after a few miles, he hasn't driven many miles yet though but I think a new cat is on the cards
The code on his car is for a "cat inefficiency'" as the sensors SEEM to be doing what they're meant to.

Might be worth checking for air leaks before replacing the sensor ? Also check the valve clearances aren’t too tight

Can you get live data? If so a screen shot of both sensors cold and hot should help.

Fingers crossed...

I came home, started the car and same fault light. Ran the OBD again and same P1157 code.

Only live thing I screen shot. Mean anything?

I then chucked in 500ml of "Cataclean".

BiL came down and ran his diagnostic reader. Same code. His first thought was dirty fuel as my lad had just filled up. Then that maybe the cat needed to regen. Not sure on the rpm but you need to get it to something like 2500-3500rpm and hold it for so long?

Reset the fault & took it out. It was kangarooing a bit, worse in lower gears / higher revs. Down the valley, up a steep hill and down the A20 to Swanley. Still jerky. Got on the motorway and came back to Wrotham. Held it at 60mph in 4th gear to get the revs around 3500rpm. Still jerky but less noticeable at the higher gear. Came back from Wrotham on the A20 through West Kingsdown, down to Farningham and back up Death Hill. It seemed to get noticeably smoother to the point it seems back to normal.

Was it the Cataclean or did the cat regen?

Light hasn't come back on anyway.

Lad had btw just filled up with Shell E10 petrol.

This at a garage where I found some slating comments about "water in the diesel".

I personally like Shell fuel and try and only ever use the E5 V-Power, unleaded.

Once this tank has gone through I'll suggest he fills up with V-Power and try that.

Well, 24 hours later and no sign of the engine management light coming on. However, there is very slight but noticeable " kangarooing" in lower gears/higher revs.

Ramp time at the weekend and check the connectors.
