Honda 2213 Lawn Tractor

ok few days ago I posted that the thing is ******** and I'm after a new one, things have taken a bit of a turn and pennies need to be diverted into other more important pressing matters.

So I need to have a go at making it work myself. It's got a new starter motor, the engine is ok and starts fine and the cutter deck was fully returned few years ago.

Problem with the unit was at the end of last season it shredded the main drive belt after I paid someone £300 to service the machine, it comes as no surprise he doesn't want to know !!.

This season I changed the drive belt and within 10 mins it was shredded again and ive lost drive. I have a workshop manual and parts are easy to come by, but there is no information on fault finding.

Does anyone have experience of these machines and can anyone shed any light as to why it may be shredding belts ?

Is it one of those belts that have a v section on each side? Our local clay pigeon club had a problem shredding belts because the pulleys were damaged.

damaged or seized pulleys belts running out of line pulleys out of line bearing in pulleys worn causing belt to run out line

you need to line it all up with a straight edge if you can

Pulleys seem ok so too are bearings, one pully off the engine has two belts and the second pulley under the gearbox has one, it's this pulley that's getting ********. The belt is just a standard belt, I matched it up with the numbers etc from a bearing supplier

It went wrong after the so called service cause the plumb didn't tighten up the main pulley comming of the engine, the twin pulley fell off while cutting grass. The upper pully drives the gear box, while the lower pulley drivers the cutter deck, lower pulley is fine

Did he replace the belt with the correct section of belt if i can find the link i will re post.

Does it have a 'clutch' acting on the belt, and if so is it a plain or faced belt?

It has a tensioner lever attached to a plastic wheel on a bearing. Pushing the lever down tightens up the belt thus engaging drive and giving you use of the gears

Don't know about service chappie but I did, measured off an old one I had

A plain 'normal' v belt will wear quite quickly on that, should be a 'cloth' faced belt to allow proper slippage.

Also, check the idlers turn freely, and have a good look at the pulley - I've seen plenty used as leverage points to remove them from the engine

Like I said the main pulley under the engine fell off cause the last twit didn't tighten up the bolt correctly, don't know what damage this caused.

The pulley under the gear box, well I did have to lever it a bit to get it off as I don't have a puller. This one is a bit strange as both sections rotate freely around the bearing. Never seen one like this so assuming it's normal
