i have this idea to make a concertina divider for marking equi distances when setting out gaps for placing bars at equal centres ,I would use it when makings balustrades,railings,and gates,something similar to the gates on an old fashioned lift,I’ve tried the principle with those plastic dog guards for jamming in a partially open car window,they’re ok but way too short,is there anything ready made ,say at least 4’ when opened,with bars set at about 75/100 centres,the sketch is my quick image of what I’m trying to produce,I can obviously make one and incorporate pointers,but it will take some time.

Have a search on eBay for "expanding trellis", there are lots.

Very easy to make, just stack all the bars together and drill through the lot.
