Hmmm, now this looks the smae as the clarke, apart from a bit of paint here and there and a MUCH lower FAD rating.

Same pump, (or very similar) same power rating. Same size tank. £280 cheaper!

Interesting, a 4hp run from a 13amp supply and its done by virtue of twin start capacitors, not capacitor start capacitor run ?. A 4hp unit that produces just 10.6 cfm, would be good to get more info on the specs of this unit. As you say Rick Hmmm.

Hey guys i read in the earlier posts that you don't really know of anywhere else to buy compressors. So i thought i'd share were i bought from, http://www.aiedirect.co.uk the website is abit of a dinsosaur to use but it tells you what you need to know, I have the h32 and have had for the past two years used everyday as im a painter, never let me down a bit noisey as it's 1 stage so maybe avoid that if it's in the same room as you. But the bloke is really friendly they deliver world wide prices are competative he'll do you a cash deal if you ask right and they also do custom builds.

Sorry for the long post I just had a really good experience buying from him and the customer service and parts is all in house as they are made were he sells from.

I went for the Clarke at £570, I called them and they only had about 4 left in stock, had to drive 60 miles for it so thats what I did.

To fill that tank to 9 bar it averages 11.7CFM. Not bad at all for a single phase supply.

Again its a 4hp claimed motor running off a 13 amp plug. 4hp is "only" 3kw though, which to be honest is the same as a decent heater. I suppose it is down to start up etc which limited you to 3hp in the past. As the initial pull is much greater.

I plugged it in last night and let it build air, didn't use it much. It seems much quieter than my old compressor, big cylinders and a slower RPM. The airfilter looks poor so i'm going to remove it and fit something off a car onto it.

On my Clarke the inlet port in the cylinder head is tapped 3/4 BSP female, I got a reducer 3/4 to 1/2 BSPT male and screwed a filter from a Rover K-Series Metro engine on to it.

The thread on the filter is very similar if not equal to 1/2 BSP - and the flow goes from outside to inside so I guess that will do.

I used a Halfords HOF213 oil filter (Metro, K-Series engine). It will screw onto 1/2 BSP parallel for a few threads and then locks (this changes a problem into a feature).

I think I may fit a T-piece and have two filters, but the single one seems to work fine.

The standard filter doesn't look to be upto much. i think i'd be tempted to run 2 on a Y piece though like you say. I was going to time it to do a full tank with the airfilter off. And then with my new 1 on it.

I'm going to make a silenced enclosure for it under a bench. I'm worried about heat, I was thinking about using a baffle of some sort with an air extractor fan to pull the heat out.

There's a couple of threads on this somewhere.

I extended the air inlet on mine with some clean vacuum cleaner hose to stop it sucking warm air in off the top of the motor. The end with the filter on sits in a filing cabinet drawer (under 'F') to act as a sound baffle.

The tanks will be outside. Well enclosed but not in the main work area. I'd rather do nothing "dodgy" the pipe I had in mind is pressure tested and comes certified to 25,500psi. But it would obviously have the ends welded on by me.

You can hire thread cutting machines to put the threads onto the ends of pipe, then you screw into fittings using ptfe tape. Probably a better option than welding.
