home made alarm

i need some help i want to put an alarm into the garage and thinking of setting somethin up to work on a sensor and using some sort of siren any ideas has anyone made one before

There are loads of alarms available over the counter for this type of application but if you want to make one just get a PIR sensor with remote control and a switched output, a loud siren, plenty of those about, wire the two up, Bob's your Auntie !!

Just lean an 8x4 sheet of 18g steel at the back of the door so it falls over if anyone opens it. You could use a car horn and a door courtesy light switch running from a battery or charger.

there is lots of rules for how long they are allowed to go off for so makeing one is hard. they are very cheep these days

I have a mechanism which suprisingly is legal, I bought this over the counter of a sports "game" shop. Its a simple device where a blank 30mm what looks like a shotgun cartridge fits in, a firing pin that is pulled back and a pin insurted which is attached to a trip wire. Anyone tripping this will be walking around with tinitis for the next week or so. cheap and effective!

I have exactly the same. It works a treat

its c alled an alarm gun . fires blank black powder cartriges . its a spigot with a spring loaded firing pin legal as long as cartrige isnt in a tube .ive had one for years

you can as said earlier use a car horn and relay so hat it latches once operated.
my first garage alarm was just that and my garage was wired into the cooker outlet so when i was in the garage and the power was on the battery was on charge but when i locked up and turned off the mains to the garage the alarm was activated

Getting back to an alarm system it depends on how sophisticated you need it. You can buy stand alone PIR and noise maker in one block for about £20. A simple alarm could be a switch on the doors connected to a relay that powered a horn. Or you could buy an alarm panel pir, door magnets and glass break detectors.
