Hole saw woes

hi guys,
I went and bought a new hole saw and arbour last week and last night I used it for the first time in my drill press. It made a terrible mess in some 4mm box section I was trying it on , I clamped the piece down used cutting fluid and still the hole was all over the place and maybe 4/5 MM bigger than the holesaw. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong because with a normal drill bit my old progress no.1 works lovely.

What size holesaw and what speed were you running? Slow slow and slow again for holesaws otherwise they burn up.

Is the pilot drill loose/running true?

Use the hole saw to drill a hole through some 3/4" ply, clamp the ply to the box as a guide and then use the holesaw without the pilot drill.

Wasn't a bosch holesaw by any chance? Had trouble with them wobbling on the arbour.
Id think the saw must have been wobbling on the arbour.

more than likely a crappy make arbour and pilot drill that runs off .get a a starret one

Thanks for the replies, it was a 28mm Erbauer hole saw from screwfix and the drill on the lowest speed. The one I replaced was a Bosch quick change one that I found even worse !!

How slow is the slowest speed? My drill press is far too fast on its slowest speed for most of my hole saws. You need really slow!

I bought a big old SDS drill and fitted a chuck to use with holesaws- never looked back.

If anyone else does this, get one with a clutch!

Buy a decent quality holesaw like Morse, etc, as others said slow speed and plenty of decent cutting fluid like CT90, Rocol etc
