Hog Spit roast Mod

Hello all,
You may recall the hog roaster I made for my daughters birthday.
Built to be wood fired, but NOW. My brother in law has come across one of those gas ceiling ceramic heaters exactly the right length to do the roaster conversion to gas,
My question is does any body know what I need to do to make it run on bottled propane,instead of town gas.I'm betting a jet change bigger/smaller? but will anything else be required.

I would try it as it is, in one of my jobs I used to build industrial ovens, the burners were set up by the suppliers to run on natural gas, but for a test firing prior to delivery we ran them on propane without any problems, although we did have adjustable regs, as I recall propane regs are set at 14" wg, natural gas is about 7" wg

If it's any help I propane regulators are 37mbar but mains gas is more like 20mbar. You won't do any harm trying it as it is but really you need smaller jets as you are likely to get big orange flames rather than nice blue ones. If you happen to know a corgi type person they often have bags of the jets as a lot of appliances come with 2 sets of jets so they can be set up for mains or propane.

My mate is a corgi type guy and he said to find the right one is quite tricky but I would have thought it would be a simple ish bit of maths to work out the size of the required jet from the size of the current jet as you have the current jet size and the 2 different pressures? Then you could make your own by drilling the right size hole down a bit of brass rod with the right thread? I think you can get drill bits in different sizes with tiny increments?

last ones I did were about £3 for a 5-6piece set, just not worth the work....

Thanks Guys,
Will check with makes corgi etc, in the worst scenario I can plug the originals with brass and experiment with re drilling,(got drills down to 0.013") and go by flame appearance.

Have not checked with anybody yet,but stripped the unit today so that I know what stye jets etc, the unit is 43" long made up of 12 ceramic panels(6 fed from each end) the brass jets are marked 2.45 this will milli meters as the hole is 0.094" dia, whole unit rated at 75,000 btu's input,I'm wondering if it's going to be too powerful, Which brings another Question, Can these gas heaters be regulated up and down during use or must they be run wide open?

Just another thought on the town gas to butane conversion, does anybody know if I could leave the town gas jet in place, then have the butane regulator on the bottle giving 11wg.? piped intp another regulator set for town gas at 7.5wg and finally to the burner jet?

when i ran my central heating from a propane bottle and went back to using good ol British gas I had to change the jets on my boiler, the landlord mutterd something about getting the right flame to produce the right temperature..
