Hobby Weld Oxygen

Looking for thoughts on exchanging my Hobby weld (Standard) Oxygen cylinder I have a deposit slip from the best part of a decade ago. Im looking to change it for a Hobby Weld (Plus) Oxygen cylinder, would this be a case of just paying the difference in deposit and the new gas price?

Can't find any reference to it online.

Go in to a dealer.

They’ll refund the small one if you have the blue slip. Sounds like you do.

You then take out a hire on the bigger size. I did It with argon last week. Had a small pure argon as that’s all he had when I took it. Now he’s got big ones back I’ve upgraded.

Yes I would think so, just call your local agent, swap the cylinder pay the difference and and you’d be good to go

I did that a while back, I'm sure i just paid the difference in deposits and plus the refill cost of the bigger bottle.

Jim,

Is yours for combustion gas (used with flammable gas) - or a shielding gas as per the section this is posted in?

Shouldn’t make a lot of difference, either way, mind.

Iis a 10L oxygen i have, its empty I need a bigger one, I rent my inert gases from BOC but as far as I know they don't have a deal on Oxygen so Hobby Weld is the next best thing.

As far as I know, the plus cylinders arena short supply, I was told that you need to take in an empty plus size to exchange,

Nope and it’s a solid nope. My local guy was insistent on it. He can’t get his bit back without your paperwork. They rent them off hobby weld then rent them to us, it seems.

That’s why I had to get a refund (-10% I think it’s was) on one then rent the other. In practice I suppose I just paid the difference plus a bit but you have to go in a circle to get there

Thanks - that's a shame - the chap I bought it from was quite clear - you just take it in and swap it. But then, he was selling it to me.... Caveat Emptor and all that.

Nope. Oxygen is not explosive or flammable.

It is oxidising....meaning it assists in the combustion process.

I’ll go with that for a layman explanation. ‘Takes part’ would be more specific. Catalysts generally ‘assist’ in thr chemical reaction, without being changed, itself (at the end of the process. Enzymes are basically organic catalysts which steadily ‘wear out’ and need to be replaced. Burning is a process whereby energy is given out (an exothermic reaction) where the chemical bond energies of the products is less than that of the reactants, usually by the reaction of the fuel with oxygen.
